Chinese Taekwondo, is a combination of Chinese fighting, Sanshou (San da 散打), Chinese wrestling(shuai jiao摔角), and Olympically accepted Taekwondo. These are the three froms which we branch out of fighting philosophies and instruction.

Taekwondo (TKD) is the world-renowned martial art and sport which is performed throughout much of the world and is even an Olympic event.  This Korean art serves as the base for many great martial artist as it focuses on technique, balance, accuracy, and speed.  These skills are essential to art form of combat you may hope to master in the future.  As a sport it is easy to pick up and difficult to master.  TKD demands for speed and balance are rarely matched.  Point-sparring is the basis for most competitions for this art in the international arena.  With this style you be sure to increase your flexibility, increase your overall health and slim down.

Sanshou/ Sanda meaning, unsanctioned fight or free form fighting, is a fighting method developed by the Chinese military.   Sanda has grown in popularity greatly in the Asian hemisphere as a sport and means of self-defense as well.  It is comparable to kick-boxing but allows, elbows, knees, take-downs, and slams.  Sanda borrows from many traditional forms of Chinese Kung fu and is in it’s own right considered a modern form of Gong fu (kung fu).  The competions are fierce and damaging and that is why it is so loved in Asia.  It is a method grounded in simplicity, ferocity, and swiftness.

Chinese wrestling is a standing form of grappling, joint-locking, that can be considered a precursor to traditional Jiu Jitsu.  The objective is to force your opponent to yield positioning and become vulnerable to throws or strikes.  There are several variations in classical Chinese wrestling but we focus on an amalgam of the three main styles, Beijing Style, Tianjin Style, and Baoding style.  Beijing style employed leg kicks and arm locks to force opponents off balance.  Baoding Style emphasized speed and quick fluid movements to control an opponents center of gravity.  These two forms are combined for instructional purposes within our classes.

The combination of the fighting forms allow students to find a niche to best express their selves and their bodies in combat and allows for many options and combinations.  Advanced students can sign up for Koryo Gumdo lessons, which is a Korean sword style based off a weapon some call a Katana.
